Bernard Gellel "The Scream"
Bernard Gellel is quite a different sort of artist. He strives in makeup and social art on which he tries to pass on forward messages, either globally or nationally, even psychological sometimes. The dedication it takes may sometimes be taken to the extreme, with certain makeup looks that evidently take up to 8 hours of total application and ending up with a removal process of a maximum 15 minutes. One message Bernard would like to pass along using text this time is as follows: “Take risks, because nothing good ever came from a place of comfort”. Looking back on Bernard’s childhood we can see that he was born and raised in Birgu, under the Gellel surname, common to many residents and locals in Birgu. Bernard is the second in the family to follow on the artistic side after his grandfather, Joe Gellel, who designed and sewed all of Birgu’s banners for feasts and events, still used to this day. Apart from that, Bernard followed up with his studied by attending De La Salle college in Bormla for his education. Bernard is a very proud child of Cottonera.

Huwa wkoll mhuwiex l-uniku persuna artistika fil-familja, izda it-tieni. Fl-ghomor taghna, Joe Gellel li jigi in-nannu ta’ Bernard, halliena 10 snien ilu izda l-hidma tieghu fuq l-bandalori u bnadar tal-festi tibqa’ mfakkra. Barra min hekk, Bernard kompla l-istudju tieghu gewwa De La Salle, l-iskola sekondarja u terzjarja gewwa Bormla. Lejn l-ahhar Bernard xtaq jispicca billi jfahhar l-gmiel ta rahal li huwa l Birgu.
